What to Wear to a Football Game

Share Clip This

“Ready, Set, Hike!”  It’s football season and time to watch a rowdy sport get even rowdier.  Football games are a classic tradition that many attend faithfully every year to support their favorite teams and athletes.  A sport that is always played outside on a football field means you must be prepared when attending, because this sport begins in late summer and ends in early winter.  Therefore, as the games progress you must be properly dressed for possible inclement weather.

What should SHE wear?  Football games are one of the most casual of sports, so leave the heels and fancy hairdos at home.  A comfortable pair of jeans, cotton t-shirt and tennis shoes is the most practical outfit to wear.  Bring a sweater or sweatshirt with you if you tend to be cold.  If it’s really cold outside make sure to wear a cold weather jacket, gloves and maybe a scarf because you will be sitting outside for an extended period of time.  If you are a diehard fan, another option is to show your support in your favorite team jersey.

What should HE wear?  This is probably an easy one for you.  Your favorite team jersey or a basic t-shirt, jeans and tennis shoes are all you need.  Don’t forget a hat to shield you from the sun and a jacket and gloves if the weather is chilly.

Where to shop: Sports Authority, Lids, and Target

In my opinion, any man who has a CAREER (not a job) has no business wearing a jersey. Are you collecting a paycheck from the NFL? I think the appropriate way for a man to represent their team is team colors or a team logo t-shirt or polo. Leave the jerseys to the players on the field or better yet, buy a jersey for the kiddies and take them to the game and lay off the booze. At a 2010 Packers/Cardinals football game I saw the most debonair gentleman wearing a Kelly Green long sleeve button down shirt with a lemon yellow cable knit sweater vest over it and a pair of classic straight cut dark wash jeans, his salt and pepper hair was his perfect accessory. I wanted to jump his bones right there in the stadium. He was GQ chic all the way!

I agree with Paige. A hat works well if you're outside tailgating. Unfortunately I've seen a lot of what-not-to-wear at games as well... Think painted beer belly.

Typically you want to wear jeans or a casual slack on bottom and on top wear something that represents the team you are cheering for! I have included some photos. Go Sun Devils! In the east and midwest it gets VERY cold and you may need to bring gloves and/or a hat.
