Polo is an outdoor sport played on horseback. Remember the scene in the movie, “Pretty Woman?” That should give you an idea of the atmosphere – except not quite as much snobbery! This is not the Kentucky Derby, so you’ll want to leave your huge hat and fancy dress at home. We also suggest leaving high heels in the closet as well, for the walking surfaces you’ll endure at a match aren’t conducive to stilettos! Attire can range from dressy to casual depending on where you sit. Jeans are not acceptable in VIP sections!
For ladies, a lightweight, slightly conservative or pretty dress with low heels or simple flats can be great for this event. Wide leg pants with flats and a pretty top, or a print skirt are also options. Don’t forget jewelry or accessories to pull the look together!
For men, a sports coat is recommended in VIP sections, but you can leave the tie at home. In other seating areas, men will most likely be seen in khaki or colored slacks with a polo or oxford shirt, casual shoe, and belt.
All should avoid anything too sporty or casual! Polo matches are slightly more elegant affairs. Also, don’t forget the sunblock if you’ll be outdoors during the day!
