The Waste Management Phoenix Open, aka the “Greatest Show on Grass,” is an event every golf lover and party goer alike should attend at least once in a lifetime. Some refer it to it as a fraternity party with golf. Whatever you call it, the most important thing to know when attending ANY event is: What shall you wear?
After checking the weather, the next most important thing to plan around is your shoes. There will be lots of walking. You don’t want blisters from your shoes. If you walk funny due to the pain of a blister, others will think you’re a.) drunk and b.) don’t read Wardrobe Wire. Nobody wants to be friends with, let alone date, a person that doesn’t read Wardrobe Wire!
One of the biggest fashion no's, when attending the Open, is wearing 5 inch stilettos. You’re at an outdoor sporting event walking on grass NOT dancing at da club. Your heels will get stuck in the grass, you will fall, and you will get grass stains on your outfit, scuff a knee, get laughed at, and go home alone. Pick a shoe that looks great, is comfortable, already molded to your foot. Just to be safe, stick a couple bandaids in your purse. Or, get Friction Block from Bandaid, which you can apply to your foot to help protect friction that might cause blisters.
Once the shoes have been chosen, work your way up. If it’s going to be hot and sunny and slacks just won’t work, go for a draping short instead. Wearing a skirt or dress might be a little much considering the type of event this is. Plus, you don’t want anyone getting a sneak peek at your privates when you bend over. You’re a classy lady! Additionally, you don't want to look like one of those women that just reek of desperation.
If you want to wear pants, make sure they’re daytime appropriate. Jeans can get hot and sticky if it’s warm out. Linen is wrinkly and not appropriate for this season. A denim legging is much lighter, a little dressier/sexier than your regular jean, and also flexible. Wear the pair that makes your arse look great! Duh. A wide leg slack is a great option as well. Go for a pastel color or a pinstripe pant and don't forget a belt.
On top, the sky is the limit! If temperatures are predicted to drop while you’re there, bring a drape front cardigan, pashmina, or wear long sleeves. You can always tie the cardigan around your waist if it’s warm. Or, tie the pashmina around your neck like a scarf until the temperatures cool off.
It’s always good to have your hands free at an event like this. You may need them to hold your adult beverage, to hold some hot guy's hand, or to wrap your arms around him for a dance. As for a purse or handbag, go for something with a long chain or strap so you can wear it across your body. You don't want to set your purse down only to forget it.
Pastels are very popular right now and there is no better place to rock them than at a golf event. That goes for the men too!
The most important thing to remember is comfort and still looking Wardrobe Wire worthy. This is not the nightclub!
Don’t forget the sunscreen! Sunburn is NOT in style, nor is skin cancer. Sunglasses are a must, too.
