What to Wear to Wimbledon

Wardrobe Wire loves Wimbledon because it is the most prestigious tennis tournament in the world. Wardrobe Wire likes prestige. Played at the All England Club, outside of London, this tournament has very strict dress codes and guidelines. Don’t be intimidated by stuffy, English rules. We are here to help! Plus, it is fun to play dress up.

While ALL competitors MUST wear all white, tennis fans can venture out in color. Weather in London is unpredictable, so make sure you look at the weather report first. The sun may be out one second and raining the next. Comfort is key when dressing for any Grand Slam tennis tourney. There is often a lot of walking, so wear comfortable shoes. Ladies, you may want to leave your five inch heels at home. To be safe, put a few band-aids or liquid band-aid in your purse. Apply Band-Aid Friction Block Stick to your feet before any adventure that keeps you on your feet a lot.

Carry a purse you can wear over your shoulder (like a messenger bag) leaving you with free hands for eating strawberries and cream, a Wimbledon tradition.

If the temperatures call for warm weather, DO NOT wear jeans. Sitting in the sun, watching tennis, wearing jeans can get very steamy. This will cause you to sweat more than usual and your pants are sure to stick to you (worst feeling EVER). Remember that you will be climbing up and down bleachers and bending over to sit down. Avoid anything too short so you don’t flash any fellow spectators. Perhaps choose a maxi dress over a mini dress.

Even though the players will be in all white, you may want to avoid white pants or shorts simply because they will get dirty from sitting outside. Don’t forget sunglasses, sunscreen, and perhaps even a hat. Be respectful of the people sitting around you and avoid a BIG hat that will obstruct their view.

Ralph Lauren is the official outfitter of Wimbledon, so you can’t go wrong going here to shop!
