Brunch is basically a combination of breakfast and lunch and is served in the late morning to early afternoon. Brunch is usually held on Sundays, but Saturday or weekday brunches aren’t unheard of.
The good thing about brunch is that, typically, there isn’t a dress code, though it can range from casual to dressy. Unless the restaurant or invitation specifies a specific code of dress, anything is generally acceptable at most places. What you wear is going to depend on the season and the venue. In general, you’ll want to avoid jeans unless they’re slightly dressier. After all, even the most casual of brunch is still a special event!
For women, pretty dresses and heels or flats, or pants with a nice top are great for spring or summer brunch. If it’s a dressier event or special occasion/party, floral prints, nautical styles, navy blue and white are all ideal. For winter brunch, high boots, sweater dresses, tights, and closed toe shoes will work perfectly. For men, a sport coat and dark wash jeans or a lightweight crewneck sweater is generally universal. Sneakers are a “don’t” unless the invitation is ultra casual, like a post-party brunch with friends.
Take along a lightweight cashmere cardigan or sweater in case weather gets chilly. Accessories like bold print scarves or large jewelry can add a simple touch to most looks.
