The Question

Hey! I'm looking for ideas for what to wear each week at a playgroup for little ones. I have two kids and end up squatting, bending, and sitting on the floor a lot. However, it's a classy event, with wine and cheese served and amazing, successful women having intelligent adult conversations (when not tending to their children).

Hi Allison! What a fun playgroup! Since you're bending and squatting a lot, I would suggest something that stretches with you, some thick leggings, a long sweater, belt, and boots, or denim that has some stretch to it, a button down shirt, blazer or sweater, and some Tory Burch style flats. You could also wear leggings under an oversized sweater or mid-thigh length dress with a belted sweater, and some conmy heels. I posted some photos for inspiration.

Hi Allison! I'm sitting in an airport right now, but wanted to respond asap. I'll post more when I get to a computer. One must have item is a pair of wide leg jeans (not bell bottom and not boot cut, just a wider leg denim "slack"). Add a belt and a knit cardigan with a colorful print or a sweater jacket and a pair of comfortable heels that you know won't hurt your feet or make you struggle to walk in. Not comfortable in heels? Wear a ballet flat. Maxi skirts are popular too. Wear tights underneath, for extra warmth, and boots. Make sure the skirt is flowy and at least hits the top of your foot (nothing drives me more crazy than a woman wearing a "maxi" dress or skirt and you can see her ankles). Pair it with a turtleneck sweater and a belt over the sweater, loosely, around the hips. More to come.... Got to catch a plane!
