I am going to my girlfriend's parent's house for the first time for dinner. My girl says it is casual but viewing pictures of her parents they always seem to be dressed very formal no matter the occasion. Do I dress casual or go more formal????
Hi Bennett!! My mom always told me it's better to be slightly overdressed than underdressed. Your girldfriend's parents will appreciate the extra effort! They would rather meet a guy that took the occasion seriously than one who looks like he is just there because his girlfriend wants him there. You can always take the jacket and tie off and roll up your sleeves if it turns out to be more casual. But if you go underdressed, aside from stealing her dad's clothes, you just look bad the entire time.
I should probably mention to first make sure and do your due diligence and find out if it truly is casual. What exactly are they having you over for? Regular dinner or a BBQ? If it TRULY is a casual dinner, then you don't want to be the only over-dressed person. If you're sure it will be formal, then go formal.
Hey Bennett, definitely go formal man. If her parents are like that then they probably want to see that. I personally think your girlfriend will be a lot happier after she hears compliments from her parents on you.
