Thanks to shows like Project Runway and American Idol, emerging talent in America get to showcase their talent, test their dedication, get mentored by some of the best people in their desired industry, and if they are lucky… make their career dreams come true. That is reality television that makes a great impact on peoples lives. Unlike “Real House Wives of New Jersey”, for example. But we aren’t hating.
A Wardrobe Wire favorite that we have been patiently waiting to see what comes of, is Althea Harper of Project Runway Season 6.
Midwestern born and as sweet as Midwest girls are known to be, Harper interned for the late Alexander McQueen. She held a moment of silence at the beginning of her show in Bryant part for her recently departed friend and mentor, whom she also dedicated the show to.
McQueen would be proud of his young protégée as she kept it cut, slick, slim and minimalistic. Keeping the future in mind, Harper used fabrics like mesh and leather. I really liked the slim fitting pants she showed as they were designed and styled very differently than most. The use of mesh in the slacks was very fashion forward. With slacks often all looking the same, and unique slacks making a comeback, Althea definitely hit the nail on the head. I want a pair!
When asked her inspiration for the line and show she said, “I was inspired by futurism art movement and taking those bold shapes to contour the body, so the models ended up becoming these femme fetale robots.”
This art I can definitely see on the body of Angelina Jolie, because she is bad to the bone and always wears form-fitting clothes to highlight her figure. I mentioned this to Harper and her response was, “ How bad a** would that be to dress her!” When asked what other celebrities fit the mold for her line, “ Penelope Cruz, Megan Fox and Kerry Washington”.
Yes, that sounds femme fetale to us!
Keep your eyes and ears open as we having a feeling Miss Harper is going to be getting better and better each year. She has proven to be a statement maker!
