Erin Fetherson showed her first collection during Haute Couture shows at Paris Fashion Week in January 2005. Talk about taking a giant leap into the big leagues! She graduated from UC Berkley in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and naturally hopped on over to France to pursue fashion. There, she studied at the famous Parsons School of Design and didn’t waste a second after finishing her studies there. Erin’s next collection was a transition into Ready to Wear and she quickly found herself a note-worthy group of celebrity followers like, Zooey Deschanel, Kirsten Dunst, Anne Hathaway, Cameron Diaz, and Winona Ryder.
She has moved from Paris to the states and has tackled the New York Fashion Week with ease. I mean, anything should be easy after Paris Haute Couture! She was a finalist for the Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund award this year (the one that launched Thakoon) and has “received honors from the UPS Delivers Fashion’s Future Initiative and the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation.” She was even a featured designer for Target’s Go International Collection for Holiday 2007. That’s a LOT of ground covered in 5 years! From Paris Haute Couture to Target!
Her 2009 Fall/Winter collection seems to be going back to her couture roots a bit. The collection is a bit more fantasy and more costume looking than her Spring/Summer 2009 collection. Her Fall color palette is red, black, white, silver, a magnolia blossom floral print, and light lavender. The start of her collection reminds me of the classic Nutcracker Ballet where the soldiers come to life and ends with sugar plum fairies. With marching jackets and pants, swing skirts, teacup skirts, and bubble dresses to complete the look. The fabrics in her collection include silk-fil jacquered, satin, chiffon, jewel tweed, wool, tulle, and organza. Although her pieces have a bit of a fantasy feel to them, many of them could be worn by the average fashionista. With the right accessories and the right attitude, you could pull it off!
