The Best Plus Size Fitting Jeans

Clip This

Many women may have a hard time finding that pair of perfect fitting jeans, but I know from experience that it can be a bit harder for us Plus Size DIVAS! Well, the trick to finding the perfect pair of jeans that will fit your curves is knowing which brands, styles, and size fit best.

Knowing your body type is the first step to finding the perfect pair of jeans. Plus size women fall into different specific body types, diamond, oval, triangle, hourglass, inverted triangle and rectangle.

Diamonds carry most of their weight in the mid section of their body leaving their waist unclearly defined. Hips and thighs are wider, while shoulder and bust are small. Straight and slim leg jeans would be a great fit because it slims and elongates the legs and thighs.

Triangles have full hips and thighs, with a defined waist, while shoulder and bust line are smaller. Straight leg and lightly flared jeans work perfect on this body type because they outline the natural silhouette and do not add more bulk to the largest parts of the body.

Ovals do not have a clearly defined waist, and a larger tummy. With fuller bust, and slender arms and legs, Boot Cut, and light flared jeans are perfect to create more shape and balance in the body.

Hourglass figures have a defined waist that is smaller than the hips. An Hourglass shape can wear most jean styles well, but should stay away from skinny jeans or straight legged jeans because those styles can shorten the body and make her look larger than she really is.

Inverted Triangle body types have a larger bust and broader shoulders. Waist, hips, and thighs are smaller so, trouser fit, or wide leg jean are great to create more balance and proportion to the body.

Rectangle has no clear defined waist and their bust, and hips are similar in size, creating a look of minimal curves. To create the illusion of a waist boot cut jeans are a style you would definitely want to try. Stay away from wide leg jeans because they will only enhance the box like shape.

You should also make sure that you get the right size for you, not too small and not too big. The perfect style of jeans will only look good if it’s in the perfect fit. Lane Bryant, a store that caters to the plus size figure has created a size chart made especially to find the right fit jeans. Have a sales associate measure you and they will be sure to lead you to a style and size that best works with your body type and measurements. Darker washes tend to be more sliming, but on more petite bodies it can make you appear larger, so medium/light washed jeans are ideal.

I usually find that trying on 3 different sizes of jeans works best. Try on your usual pants size, a larger size, and a smaller size. Then pick the size and style that fits best or most perfect in your problem area. Don’t worry if it’s not perfect because you can always have them tailored to fit your body. Most dry cleaners offer a tailoring service. It shouldn’t cost more than $15.00 to get those jeans to fit perfect! Different brands fit different even if they are the same style of jean, so trying on jeans before a purchase is important. Never wear jeans that are too tight or too big because it will only make you look bigger.

Jeans are a staple part of anyone’s wardrobe, they’re quick and easy to put on with a cute top. But no matter how cute the top is, and how well you accessorize it, if it’s not the right fit, it’s not the right look for you. Lane Bryant, Levi’s, Calvin Klein, Baby Phat, and Seven offer a wide selection of great fitting plus size jeans. With the tips I have given you, there is no reason you should not be able to shop these brands and find your perfect DIVA Fitting Jeans!

Wear it with style!

This is a great article. Some of my "plus sized" friends have told me they only wear sweat pants because the feel "fat". First of all, they are not fat! Second, if anything sweat pants make you look bigger not smaller. The jeans above would look great on ANYONE. No need to dress down!
