If you are looking for a simple closet make-over or just want to upgrade your wardrobe, here are some key items every WW girl should have in her closet. Now, let me make note that you want to buy quality items as these should remain in your closet for a few years. These are never trends, simply items that should get you through life in a fashionable, put together way, every single day. If you have the funds – go designer. If you don’t, try stores like Banana Republic, J.Crew, and GAP. Items from your favorite budget friendly stores such as Forever 21 and Target, just won’t last very long.
1. The Perfect Fitting Jean – take a day (and your most honest, holds nothing back, girlfriend) and try on a hundred pair if that’s what it takes until you find the one. You won’t regret it!!
2. A Great Heel – I would recommend black, gray, or a creamy nude. Remember – these are not the hottest, latest looks in your closet. They should be classic pieces that never do you wrong.
3. A Hot Boot – especially if you live in cold weather areas. The length is up to you and what you are comfortable with, but every girl needs a great boot in her closet.
4. Quality T-Shirt – this should be slightly loose fitting and either a v-neck or u-neck. You can throw it on with your perfect fitting jeans and head to the kids soccer game or make a grocery store run and you will never look sloppy.
5. Classic Cut Blazer – go for black, gray, or navy. Try some on and find what fits you best.
6. LBD and/or LWD – if you can afford both, go for both. It gives you an option and both will look crisp and classic. If you can only have one, go for the little black dress, only because more events will require black than white.
7. A Suit – A WW girl should always be prepared for that unexpected job interview or pitch of your company. You don’t want to have to say no or even reschedule because you don’t have a suit ready to go in your closet. If you’re elevator speech worked it’s magic, and the VP of New Development says meet me here in 2 hours and be ready to pitch - girl, you better not ask for an extension because you don't have a proper suit!
8. A Light-Weight Oversized Cardigan – perfect for chilly nights and air conditioned restaurants. Bring this with you instead of going for that sweatshirt you’ve had in your trunk for a year. Because it’s light weight – it’s easy to throw over your purse (or even in if your bag is big enough).
9. Statement Top – this should be something that showcases your personality. It should be something that you can throw on for that last minute party your friend decides to throw or a last minute invite to the opening of a bar or restaurant.
10. Scarf – A decorative scarf is a great way to dress up that t-shirt or throw on with your blazer or suit to add something extra. You can also tie it around the handle of your bag if it gets in the way or if you just want to add a little somethin’ somethin’!
11. Bag – This should be black or tan. Remember, colors change every season. You want a bag that will last through all seasons and for multiple years and always looks appropriate. So don’t go for the latest denim, studded bag - find a size you like, go leather, go designer, and it will become a member of your family.
