Little White Dress

Come spring and summer, it’s time to put away the LBD, and revive it with the LWD (Little White Dress).  This is a great alternative to the “Little Black Dress,” that every woman should have in her closet.  In response to the economic recession that is looming over us all, what other way to brighten your life and personal well being, then to rid your closet of dark depressing dresses and replace them with bright optimistic whites.

Seen on practically everyone from major celebs like, Beyonce, to your everyday fashionista, the LWD is a universal look that every woman of any shape and size can pull off.   This season, we observed a myriad of white dresses storming down the runways from New York and London to Paris and Milan.  Many designers this season created their own unique twist on the LWD.  Modern collections from Calvin Klein and Max Mara showed simple and modest designs with clean lines and minimal embellishments.  Alexander Wang and Diane Von Furstenburg played with variations of white prints and floral embroidery on feminine shapes.  Badgley Mischka and Balmain used intricate patterns, rich fabrics, full volume and luxurious adornments to create glamorous variations of the LWD.   Whatever your shape and style, there is a little white dress for you.

If you have a fuller figure, choose a style similar to a wrap dress because it assists in de-emphasizing the hips and thighs to create a flattering silhouette.  Stay away from loose flowing dresses, as they tend to make, an already curvy woman, look larger.  If you have a thinner frame, or athletic body type, try a slim pencil fit dress to accentuate your curves.  Prices can range anywhere from $65 and up depending on store or designer, but you don’t need to spend a large amount of money for a fabulous white dress.  Whatever looks best is the one for you.

Is this trend here to stay? I think so! The LWD should be a staple in every woman’s closet.  It’s a timeless piece that will never go out of style.
