Spring Trend: Shine and Shimmer

Starting to get bored with your wardrobe?  Well, adding some SHINE AND SHIMMER to your closet is the perfect thing to do this spring! Designers like Costume National, Elise Øverland, MaxMara, Rag and Bone, and my personal fave, Stella McCartney, utilized sheen in their Spring 2010 collections.

A blazer with shimmer can work well as a style choice for anyone, but pay attention to your body type if you choose to wear it in a pant or skirt.  If you’re plus size, or are full in the hips or butt, stay away from sheen on the lower half of the body.  Wearing a flowing A-line skirt, dress, or blazer in shimmer would look great on a fuller body type because it does not isolate problem areas.  Mixing shimmer with fabrics that have little sheen, like rayon and cotton blends is a perfect way to balance the shine.

Shimmer is great, but too much of anything can be overwhelming. A petite woman who wants to wear shimmer should choose one place to wear it. American Apparel has a great pair of shimmer opaque tights for $20.00. Shimmer tights would be a great choice for a petite woman because they will not overpower her small frame.

Even men can have a little bit of shimmer in there wardrobe. Seen in the Rag and Bone Spring collection are shimmer pants in a fabric with less sheen than you would find in woman’s apparel; Paired with leather shoes, belt and jacket this is a great look for the fashion forward man.

A dress that shines is perfect for a Valentine’s Day date, or for a night out with the girls! To find the perfect sheen for your closet visit your local Bloomingdales, New York & Company, JCPenney or Barney’s.

Wear it with style!
