We first started sniffing this trend back when Dolce&Gabbana showed toeless, lace socks with gold sandals. Come fall, a thicker sock worn with a close toe pump has been seen all over the runways. Designers like Dolce&Gabbana and Marc Jacobs are the first to come to mind. Now, you don't have to wear designer duds to pull this look off. Let them just be an example of what to do.
