The Question

I have an an outside sales job and although I am not required to wear a suit, I am expected to were nice slacks and button up shirt (not polo's or golf shirts). I just realized most of my slacks have pleats. I have heard that they are no longer in style. Do I now need to replace my work slacks?

Well, it depends on the number of pleats and your body type. With everything, you have to wear what you KNOW works for you. Since you are my brother, I am so lucky for such good genes, I know that you have a tall, lean look. European, if you will. Here is my advice....

3 pleats= JUST SAY NO on any pant

2 Pleats= If it is with a designer, classic suit. ....JUST DO IT!

1 Pleat= yes, especially in a fitted and more casual pant.

Point is.... something as classic and universal as "pleats" can adjust to every trend, season, genre, economic class, "and so forth and such as" - (Miss North Carolina, USA.).

Does that help? Feel free to upload some pictures so Wardrobe Wire's community can give better advice!

Although slacks with pleats aren't necessarily on top of the fashion lists right now, don't discard your pants quite yet. It first depends on how many pleats are on your pants. If it is just 1 or 2 small pleats, there is no need to replace. But if there are 3 or more pleats I would seriously consider replacing your pants as this may assist in creating a more "out-dated" slack. A simple, sleek crisp pair of slacks (sans pleats) will always be in style and can be used for other occasions besides work. Pleat-less pants will also allow for an easy transition from day to night without looking like you just came from work! You always want to look current and up to date as looks are especially important in a sales job. Also, looking your best dosen't hurt for increasing your sales!
