The Question

i have a suit that i purchased a little over 5 years ago. well, after wearing it a few times, i realize that the pleated pants do not do my thin body structure any favors. is it possible for a tailor to basically customize the pants, and remove the pleats? i really like the colors, and they are such that it would likely be impossible to find a matching pair of pants to replace the pleated pants with.

In answer to your question: Yes a good tailor should be able to "reconstruct" the pants. If they haven't been worn a lot they may have dry rot on the seems. So you until you get into it you may not know exactly if you will be please with the end result. The question you have to ask is how much are you willing to spend? or is it just easier to replace?

To answer your question - Yes, a good tailor could probably take out the pleats, bring in the seams, and make the pants fit, but it depends on how the pants were put together (i will not bore you with an explanation here), and the tailor may not know for sure until after he/she takes them apart.

I have to agree with Paige though - anything over 5 years old is more than likely due for an update.

5 years? Time for a new suit! Period. If the jacket is in good condition you might be able to keep it around to wear casually with other pants......
