Melbourne is the cosmopolitan city of Australia due to its melting pot of cultures. The highest Greek population (outside of Greece) resides in Melbourne and is influenced by many European cultures. This is also common within the architecture where Victorian and Gothic buildings sit alongside modern steel and glass marvels. Finders St. Station (the hub of Melbourne’s transport system), Federation Square, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Arts Centre Spire, and the Melbourne Cricket Grounds are all distinct landmarks of Melbourne that represent its history, heritage, and style.
Chapel St/Toorak: This is one of the main shopping areas and destinations that tourist go to when they arrive in Melbourne. You can shop, dine, and party all on one street. Melbourne people truly appreciate individuality and originality. Wear anything you feel comfortable in, just as long as it looks like you put in some effort. It’s common to see women strut down this street in the latest pair of heels paired with an eye-catching handbag, fiercest pair of “sunnies” (sunglasses), and a chic dress. Men are often seen in button ups, jeans that can be dressed up or down or slacks, and a nice shoe.
Brunswick: An artsy area where you will find yourself surrounded by the most creative and open people Melbourne has to offer. It’s strongly advised that you don’t “overdress” when you visit Brunswick. T-shirts, jeans, flip flops, saddlebags, vintage sunnies, and creative jewelry follow the dress code here. Brunswick is also the place where you can find the greatest vintage treasures.
Lastly, make sure you pack a jacket, the most important item of clothing in Melbourne. Melbourne tends to have 4 seasons in a day, and it will often be warm and sunny one minute and quite chilly the next. If you are there in the winter, make sure to dress in layers and pack a pea coat or a long wool coat and boots. The last thing you want to be is unprepared!! That is why Wardrobe Wire is here.
