The Mediterranean atmosphere and cooler temperatures in Alexandria are a welcome change from the hot, Middle Eastern environment solidified throughout Egypt's other regions. Upon my initial arrival, I felt a comfort wash over me. The streets were not as crowded, people were not aggressively trying to sell us their merchandise and the breeze from the ocean felt cool and friendly.
When you pack for Alexandria, think about what you would wear to the beach in California, and then put a cover on it. Although Alexandria seems a bit more relaxed as far as lady's dress goes, remember you are still in a Muslim country. Skimpy clothing of any type will draw unwanted attention. Loose-fitting shorts, dresses and shirts are a must, as well as flip flops and comfortable shoes for walking around the city. A very light cardigan is also necessary at night. As far as swimwear is concerned, feel free to bring a bikini, but make sure to wear a cover-up when you are walking anywhere outside your hotel pool area, unless of course you actually want the attention and stares, which if you are a Wardrobe Wire girl, you surely don't:)
Once you are there, make sure to soak in all of the history and sunshine this beautiful city has to offer! It's a great place to relax and allow yourself to get lost in the moment.
