The Question

Paige - My wife Sarah and I are going to NYC - one of the most stylish cities in the U.S. - for a week in July and we want to see all the great shopping areas, do some site seeing, catch a Broadway show, walk through Central Park, hit some really hot spots for drinks and dinner and then maybe head to the shore for a day. Help!! What do we bring and how do we dress for comfort AND style with out over packing? Always, Kyle S.

Full Disclosure: I am NOT the best packer!

But one thing I can tell you to remember is CLASSIC is ALWAYS in style. A light weight button down shirt and your favorite pair of jeans are great items to pack for both of you. If you're looking to add a little style to your NYC wardrobe, floral will definitely still be in this summer, that could be an option for your wife, and for you, spectator shoes!

A very famous supermodel that travels the world weekly taught me to plan your packing around your shoes. When packing I often try to be as minimalist as possible. So maybe start with two pairs of shoes. A pair that you can walk all around town in during the day that you KNOW are comfortable. Perhaps your favorite pair of Converse, TOMS Shoes, loafers, etc. Then, for night time bring your favorite pair of dress shoes that you know will look good with anything, are in good condition, and are comfortable. Broadway shoes are not that dressy, believe it or not, but you still want to look good. Maybe your wife could bring her favorite pair of black slacks or her favorite Little black dress that she could maybe pull off wearing twice on the trip. She could change the look by pairing it with different jewelry of jacket of pashmina. Same goes for you- bring a pair of slacks that could be worn twice. You can always touch them up with an iron in your hotel room. Bring one sports coat that you can dress up with the slacks or down with a pair of jeans. You and your wife should share one garmet bag that you can put all your nicest garmets in. Share a suit case for the toiletries, shoes, and other stuff. Stuff that does not need to be wrinkle free, you call roll up in your suitcase to save room. Make sure your wife carries her jewelry in her purse and does not check it in.
