This usually means that the host/hostess wants you to dress relative to the holiday or party theme. It is probably safe to assume that this means no jeans, no black tie and no business casual.

You can be a little more courageous with festive attire by opting for holiday colors, fabrics and embellishments. It is a dressy atmosphere but with a fun twist. When we think of festive attire we think: winter white, black velvet, faux fur, holiday colors, cashmere, silk blouses with ruffles around the bosom.

Men can wear slacks with sports coats, sweaters, or turtlenecks for example.
